Here’s what needs to happen for there to be a Champions League play-off between Arsenal and Liverpool

It could happen.

Given that Liverpool and Arsenal are incredibly close in the race for Champions League qualification, both clubs will be keeping a close eye on the result of their rivals as the race for the top four reaches the finishing line. A brace from Alexis Sanchez was enough to secure the three points for Wenger's side against Sunderland, and in doing so, the Gunners have narrowed the gap on Klopp's men to a single point. As for the fixtures on the final day of the season, Arsenal host Everton at the Emirates while the already relegated Middlesbrough travel to Anfield. As things currently stand, Liverpool are in control of their own destiny because a win over 'Boro will secure them Champions League qualification. Then again, if Steve Agnew's men can cause a shock by taking any points off the 'Pool - via a win or draw - a win for Arsenal will see them leapfrog Liverpool in the table and finish in the top four.
