Whilst making it clear that he felt Valdes was being unfairly treated, the Spanish international goes on to explain that this had no bearing on his decision to join Chelsea instead of van Gaal's United earlier in the summer.
“I don’t believe it’s fair, but it didn’t influence my decision," he added.
Instead, the winger claimed that it was United's hesitance which made him opt for a move to Stamford Bridge.
“I just saw that Manchester didn’t take that step, that they were taking too long and I needed a team to start. Chelsea were more decisive.”
