Louis van Gaal is a hard man to please, just ask Victor Valdes.

But there are a few players over the years who have broken through the icy exterior of the Dutchman and earned some praise. Van Gaal has managed some legends over the years including the likes of Xavi, Patrick Kluivert and Dennis Bergkamp but none of them make his top five. Rather, it's Wayne Rooney who is singled out for particular acclaim as Van Gaal has claimed that the United front man is the greatest captain he has worked with (even if he hasn't a clue what he's saying). Manchester United v West Ham United - Premier League Van Gaal recently revealed to Dutch radio that he puts Rooney in his top five alongside the likes of Luis Figo, Philipp Lahm, Ronald de Boer and Bastian Schweinsteiger. That's a decent five-a-side team, ain't it?
