Another loss for Manchester United, this time to Southampton, saw more reports linking the currently-unemployed Jose Mourinho with the job at Old Trafford.

One report spectacularly claimed that the former Chelsea boss was so desperate to land the role, he'd sent the United board a six-page letter which stated his desire to manage the club. Chelsea FC v FC Porto - UEFA Champions League But just hours later, Mourinho's representative, Jorge Mendes has poured cold water over such a suggestion, denying the letter even exists. 'It doesn’t cross anyone’s mind that a manager such José Mourinho is writing letters to clubs, asking for a job,' a statement from Mendes reads. 'It’s ridiculous and absolutely nonsense.'
Despite the denial from Mourinho's camp, it's unlikely that stories linking the 52-year-old with the United job will fade away in the near future.
