You could be owed a tidy refund from your energy company this spring.

According to price comparison website uSwitch, many homes will have built up credit with their energy provider as a a result of a warmer winter than usual. They estimate that nearly £1.5 billion is owed to customers around the UK, with around 11 million homes possibly due a refund. According to their maths, an average of around £132 is owed in gas and electricity bills, with 1 in 10 people possibly able to claim over £200. Natural Gas Prices Up On Energy Market

How you do find out if you're owed money? Check your electricity and gas meters and submit an up-to-date readings to see if you’re in credit. uSwitch's Tom Lyon said:
"After one of the UK’s mildest winters on record, millions of consumers may well have paid out hundreds of pounds for energy they simply didn’t use. Under Ofgem rules, providers must repay any credit on request, so now is the time to read your meter, update your account and reclaim what you’re owed."
So if you think you've been overpaying for your gas and electricity (especially if you pay by direct debit), have a look at your metre and you could be due an unexpected cash windfall.
