Australian reporter pulls no punches in must-see, withering attack on Donald Trump

The G20 summit in Hamburg this weekend hasn’t been one of Donald Trump’s finest moments in a presidency that has been riddled with controversy since his inauguration in January. The US president faced criticism from many quarters when his daughter Ivanka, who was in Hamburg to advocate the launch of the G20 Women Entrepreneurship Fund, was spotted sitting in place of her father during a working group at the summit on Saturday. Trump was also left looking rather awkward as the only one of the 20 world leaders at the summit taking a separate stance on the issue of climate protection, following his decision to withdraw the United States from the Paris agreement earlier this year. It’s fairly plain to see that it wasn’t exactly Trump’s finest hour and in the aftermath of the weekend, his reputation as President was the subject of a considered, yet fairly brutal takedown by Australia reporter Chris Uhlmann, political editor with ABC News. Amongst the points made in an eloquent address lasting just over two minutes, Uhlmann said that the US “was left isolated and friendless” and that “Trump has pressed fast forward on the decline of the US as a global leader. He managed to diminish his nation and to confuse and alienate his allies”. Uhlmann described Trump as “a character drawn from America's Wild West, a travelling medicine showman selling moonshine remedies that will kill the patient” and said that “this week he underlined he has neither the desire nor the capacity to lead the world”.
