At first glance, Leonardo DiCaprio's upcoming film The Revenant has all the ingredients of an Oscar winner.

It blends an award-winning director (Birdman's Alejandro Gonzalez Inarittu), a hugely talented supporting cast (including Brits Tom Hardy and Will Poulter) and expansive American landscapes. Oh, and DiCaprio himself, playing trapper Hugh Glass in an 19th-century revenge thriller based on true events.
