A recent Twitter poll found that 60 per cent of users support Depp
A petition hoping to get Johnny Depp back into the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise has surpassed 420k signatures as it approaches its target.
As the Amber Heard versus Johnny Depp trial continues, a petition hoping to reintroduce Captain Jack Sparrow into Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is closing in on its 500k target. Describing Depp, 58, as a "phenomenal actor", original poster Kimberly Giles claimed that Heard, 36, lied about domestic abuse and subsequently "ruined Johnny Depp’s life as well as career."
Of course, this suggestion of lying is purely conjecture.
Giles continued, adding: "This man NEVER disappoints when he makes a movie, so why continue to keep him from doing Pirates of the Caribbean??" she explained. "That movie is nothing without him! Please sign this petition to help Johnny Depp get back to what he enjoys and does best."
Giles also detailed how Heard is still set to appear in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, something which is also being petitioned against.
At the time of writing, there have been 427,863 signatures.
While it's clear a great number of people are in Depp's corner, that isn't to say everything contained in the petition brief is accurate.
A poll conducted by political commentator Clay Travis found that 60 per cent of Twitter users support Depp, one per cent support Heard, and 39 per cent believe they "both sound awful." Though Heard has largely been the focus of what she described in her article which sparked this trial as "Culture's wrath", that isn't to say Depp's record has been squeaky clean either.
Disturbing text messages sent to Marvel actor Paul Bettany saw Depp say: "smack the ugly c*** around before I let her in."
It didn't stop there either - with future texts to Bettany allegedly reading: "Let's burn Amber!!!" and "Let's drown her before we burn her!!! I will f*** her burnt corpse afterwards to make sure she is dead..."
