If Conor McGregor does return to defend his featherweight title, he'll notice a fresh face among the top contenders.
Anthony Pettis got his new life at 145lb off to the perfect start at UFC on Fox 21 when he submitted decorated Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt Charles Oliveira.
In the co-main event of Saturday night's card, Pettis' featherweight debut went perfectly as he proved he wasn't afraid of the grappling credentials of one of the division's most tricky customers.
Oliveira had won by way of submission in 13 of his 21 victories before welcoming 'Showtime' to 145lb but it was Pettis who drew the tap with a gorgeous guillotine choke midway through the third round of their clash.
Pettis actually looked the more composed fighter on the mat throughout the bout, coolly avoiding rear naked choke attempts and spinning into Oliveira's guard each and every time the Brazilian attempted to secure back mount.
In spite of what appeared to be a tough weight cut for the former UFC and WEC lightweight champion, Pettis avoided any cardio issues and ensured his hand was raised by squeezing the tap from the sixth-ranked featherweight in the world.

And in his post-fight interview, Pettis made no secret of the fact that he was gunning for a shot at the title currently held by Mr McGregor.
Another fascinating stylistic match-up has been thrown our way.
