This would be smart business for Tottenham but we doubt Jose Mourinho would jump at this.
There are always last-minute deals and late surges of interest in players during each transfer window.
On the back of reports that Tottenham have binned a move for Moussa Sissoko, following Newcastle United's £35m valuation, The Daily Mail claim the Londoners have contacted Manchester United to ask after Morgan Schneiderlin.
The French midfielder did not enjoy the best of seasons at United after his £25m move from Southampton. He was rarely afforded a run of games but did improve for United near the end of their FA Cup-winning season.
He did miss games at the tail-end of the season, due to "illness", and was said to have fallen out with Louis van Gaal. Schneiderlin is determined to break into the United starting XI this season but has only featured on the bench under Mourinho. He has only played five minutes of competitive football this season.
Mauricio Pochettino managed the 26-year-old at Southampton and is lining him up as a midfield option if Newcastle hold to their steep valuation.
Meanwhile, Mourinho is reportedly unhappy that Bastian Schweinsteiger is holding out for a move to the MLS or the slim, slim chance of a first team recall.
The German midfielder has attracted interest from Benfica and Sporting Lisbon but is not keen on a move to France. Schweinsteiger's "dream", he told reporters in Germany yesterday, is to remain on with United.
