The monkey is off Rooney's back, for another few days at least.

Manchester United's captain looked as if he was going to have one of those nights, again, as his side struggled to break down a compact, determined opponent. Rooney had the ball in the net on one occasion but his effort was ruled offside while he could not get the ball out from under his feet, midway through the second half, with the goal gaping. The English side had not scored in over five hours coming into their match with CSKA Moscow and were forced to wait another 79 before Rooney pounced with a header, which proved to be the winner. The striker's pumped up celebrations proved how much recent criticism had stung.
As he ran to the Stretford End, Rooney roared, "F*cking come on! Get in there!"
