Ryan Giggs to announce Manchester United departure

Ryan Giggs is set to leave Manchester United after 29 years.

The 42-year-old has worked as Louis van Gaal's assistant manager for the past two seasons, after 24 seasons as a first-team player, and was briefly caretaker manager following the dismissal of David Moyes two years ago. However, according to the Sunday People, Giggs will decline to become part of the coaching set-up under Jose Mourinho. The new United manager is to bring his own team of coaches with him to Old Trafford, including a new assistant manager in the form of Rui Faria, and Giggs' role was likely to be reduced to youth team coach. Instead, the Welshman will attempt to earn himself a managerial gig with another club. Giggs was tipped to be Van Gaal's successor, but will reportedly announce his Old Trafford departure later this week, and join the managerial merry-go-round in English football. The 42-year-old joined the United youth team from rivals Manchester City on his 14th birthday in 1987, won every trophy possible and made 963 appearances for the club. The Sunday People report that he was advised by his close friends to give management a try and step out of his comfort zone at Old Trafford.
