Liverpool fans attempting to provide rallying gesture to Dejan Lovren

Nobody deserves the kind of messages that Dejan Lovren has been receiving.

In what world do poor performances on a football pitch warrant death threats to a man's family? It's sick and those responsible need to be held accountable. On Tuesday afternoon, Lovren revealed a horrific message from a so-called "fan" after returning to Instagram. Last week, amid scathing criticism for a pair of errors against Tottenham Hotspur, Lovren decided to remove any mention of Liverpool from his Instagram bio, changed his profile image to a blank avatar and disabled comments on his account. But the Croatian international is back on social media and addressed the above threat in his next post. "I don't mind when people talk shit about me, it says more about them," Lovren wrote. "But I cannot ignore when my family is threatened. "I just can't and won't accept that. Disgusting." Lovren was named in the Reds' starting XI for their game at home to Huddersfield on Saturday but was forced out during the final stages of the pre-match warm-up after picking up a thigh injury. The 28-year-old is going through arguably the toughest period of his career to date and while supporters are frustrated by his performances on the pitch, they have decided to rally behind Lovren because, at the end of the day, he is a Liverpool player. As something of a gesture towards Lovren, Reds fans have come together to vote for him as the club's Player of the Month so that he realises that he has the backing of the Anfield faithful.
