We have seen a number of talented centre-backs enjoy breakout Premier League seasons for some of the competition's top clubs.

While new signings like Virgil van Dijk and Ramiro Funes Mori have impressed for Southampton and Everton respectively, we asked JOE readers to choose between four other talented centre-backs. Gabriel, Nicolas Otamendi, Mamadou Sakho and Chris Smalling have all been crucial to their teams' fortunes this season, though Sakho has since been ruled out for a number of months through injury, and you have been having your say with regards to who has been the most impressive. https://twitter.com/JOE_co_uk/status/661962880250679298

Smalling was a popular choice, with the England man given plenty of credit for Manchester United's defensive solidity.
