Graeme Souness and Bobby Charlton are the two men keeping Gerrard out of the XI, produced by Carragher for the Daily Mail.
'Bobby Charlton is the greatest English player of all time and takes the attacking midfield role, with Graeme Souness the more defensive one because of his passing as well as his aggression,' the 38-year-old writes in his column for the paper.
'And that means two of my favourite players — Roy Keane and even my old mate Steven Gerrard — miss out.'
In fairness, Carragher has been humble enough not to pick himself either, though Liverpool players make up two of the back five.
The exceptions? Peter Schmeichel and, perhaps surprisingly, Denis Irwin.
