Atrocious goalkeeper howler seals Aberdeen’s exit from European football

Aberdeen have crashed out of Europe in painful circumstances.

The Scottish side were in Slovenia for the second-leg of their Europa League qualifier against Maribor, and endured a difficult night. Aberdeen needed to score, after the first-leg finished 1-1, and were presented with the perfect opportunity after 25 minutes when they were rewarded a penalty. However, last season's top scorer Adam Rooney had his spot-kick saved.
To add insult to injury on a night to forget, in stoppage time Graeme Shinnie played a pass back to goalkeeper Joe Lewis, who primed himself for a long punt down the field for a final attack. However, the 'keeper missed the ball, and saw it roll into the net.
A goalkeeper's nightmare. Aberdeen lost 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate. thumbnail_SNAPCHATUK
