Former England international handed first manager role in football

A former England man has ventured into management, with his first role announced earlier today.
Making 33 appearances for the Three Lions, it's understood that Kieron Dyer is set to be announced as the new manager of Southend United.
The National League side will appoint the gaffer as Kevin Maher's successor.
Maher was sacked last month days after winning the FA Trophy, with Dyer expected to take over at Roots Hall soon.
Starting his coaching career at Ipswich Town, Dyer has been part of Paul Cook's Chesterfield backroom team for the past three years.
Before his coaching career, Dyer made 225 appearances in the Premier League, featuring for the likes of Newcastle United, West Ham and QPR.
The former England midfielder also had spells with Ipswich and Middlesbrough, before he retired aged 32.
Following hanging up his boots, Dyer returned to Ipswich in 2020, becoming the side's u23-gaffer.
