Steven Gerrard confirms Gary McAllister will be his assistant at Rangers

Steven Gerrard has been confirmed as the new Rangers manager.

Having worked as a coach with Liverpool's youth system over the course of this season, Gerrard has signed a four-year contract at Ibrox, starting on June 1. He will complete his commitments with Liverpool and BT Sport - where he has worked as a pundit - before making the move to Glasgow. “I am honoured to become the next manager of Rangers. I have enormous respect for this football club, and its history and tradition," the 37-year-old said in a statement. “I can’t wait to start this new journey at Rangers as we look to build on the many successes that this Club has achieved.” Speaking at a press conference from Ibrox, Gerrard also confirmed that Gary McAllister, one of his former teammates at Liverpool, would become his assistant manager. “He ticks the box where I’m not the most experienced so as a partnership I feel that that’ll be very strong,” Gerrard explained. McAllister played alongside Gerrard between 2000 and 2002, and the pair have remained in touch since. The former Scottish international began his playing career with Motherwell, playing the rest of it in England with Leicester City, Leeds United, Coventry City and Liverpool.
