Well, it was a nice idea while it lasted...

Daniel Sturridge will seemingly not be moving to St James' Park after all. The Liverpool striker, linked with moves to Inter Milan and Sevilla in recent weeks, looked set for a loan switch to Newcastle United on Monday. A report in The Times claimed the club would cover his £120,000-a-week wages and fork out a £1.5m fee so that the England international spent the remainder of the season in the North East. However, a further update from George Caulkin revealed that, despite Newcastle expecting Sturridge to travel to Tyneside on Monday afternoon, the England international had not made the journey. https://twitter.com/CaulkinTheTimes/status/957979481934909442 It has now emerged that West Brom are also interested in signing Sturridge on a similar loan deal to the one reportedly being offered by Newcastle - perhaps explaining why he had not travelled north. Newcastle fans, well aware that the club are in desperate need of some added firepower if they are to beat the drop, were understandably disappointed at the development. https://twitter.com/George__O/status/957985447673819136 https://twitter.com/toonlowdown/status/957979766241611780 https://twitter.com/NUFC_Oscar86_/status/957980124896546819 https://twitter.com/_MSC26/status/957984026056372226 https://twitter.com/AndyStamp2/status/957981220419309568 https://twitter.com/BRADY1892/status/957980620541571072 https://twitter.com/toontoonbarmy/status/957981623194128384 https://twitter.com/theboytemps/status/957980235068313600 Newcastle are currently 15th in the Premier League, though are just a point away from the relegation zone. Sturridge, who has hardly featured for Liverpool this campaign, is said to be keen on a move away from Anfield to boost his hopes of playing for England at this summer's World Cup.
