Jesse Lingard explains ‘disrespectful’ tweet sent from his account during Munich memorial service

Jesse Lingard has moved to clarify how a tweet was sent from his Twitter account during Tuesday's memorial service for the Munich Air Disaster.

Lingard was at Old Trafford for the service, which marked the 60th anniversary of the tragedy in which 23 people died - eight of which were Manchester United players. Shortly after those in attendance had observed a minute's silence, some supporters noticed a tweet had been sent from Lingard's account, discussing the possibility of he and teammate Marcus Rashford playing a few games of Fifa 18. Many fans were unhappy with the timing of the tweet, and branded Lingard disrespectful for sending it. Hours on from this, and the England international has explained that, as some suspected, the tweet had not been sent by him. 'A member of my media team inadvertently replied to a tweet this afternoon on my Twitter profile during the Munich memorial service at Old Trafford,' a post from Lingard read. 'I was unaware as I was attending the service at the time, and don't condone the post or the timing in anyway.'
