Boca Juniors players had to be helped off the pitch by riot police following their Superclásico win against arch rivals River Plate on Sunday.
The game was played at the home of River Plate, El Monumental, where Boca were victorious to claim early-season bragging rights and leave the home fans more than angered.
As part of the rules and regulations in the Argentine league, away fans are not permitted at fixtures, leaving Boca players and staff to celebrate all on their own.
But as they began to walk off the pitch, riot police were required to protect them from the onslaught of objects thrown towards their direction.
Some players held their hands up as a plea for supporters to stop reigning down the barrage of missiles, but fans didn't listen, meaning riot police were forced to step in, using their shields as a barrier.
Members of the Boca squad voiced their frustrations following the attack, with former Manchester United defender Marcos Rojo and match-winner Sebastian Villa making their feelings known to the crowd during the incident.
The win for Boca at their rivals' home means that they've now moved up to second in Group B of the Argentine League table and will also gain a psychological advantage ahead of this week's Copa Libertadores draw, which is due to take place on Friday.
River and Boca met in the 2018 edition of the final, where the second leg had to be moved to the Santiago Bernabeu as a result of violent outbreaks between the two sets of supporters.
