Sometimes jumping in on short notice can benefit you.
For Nate Diaz, coming in at the last second for UFC 196 turned out to be the smartest move of his career as he took down Conor McGregor and has scored himself some hefty paydays.
But sometimes, you end up like Sabah Homasi.
Homasi stepped in on just two weeks' notice for his UFC debut on Saturday night, replacing an injured Sean Strickland, to take on the veteran Tim Means in the UFC 202 main card opener.
It did not go well.
Homasi knew that his best chance was to pour it on Means early and he did just that but saw his fuel gauge plummet dramatically as 'The Dirty Bird' started picking the debutant apart on the feet.
Homasi's face was painted crimson by the jarring jab and crunching straight left of Means, who was happy to chip away with perfect precision.
Herb Dean saw enough when Homasi could barely see anything at all and the fight was waved off after 2:56 of round two.

The defeat means the 27-year-old loses his three-fight win streak, and puts early pressure on him to make his mark in the UFC.
For Means, however, it represents an improvement to a 26–7–1 career record.
