As Havertz avoids sending off against Burnley, here’s who tops the Premier League’s red card table

Number one is an obvious choice...

In the aftermath of the shock decision by VAR to allow Kai Havertz to stay on the field against Burnley on Monday, we've gone to the effort of researching exactly how many reds every Premier League club has received so far this season, and ranked them from 1 to 20.

Arsenal's goalscorer on the night, Kai Havetz, appeared in deep trouble around the 67th minute, as the German forward appeared to completely miss the ball as he made a rash tackle from behind and towards Lesley Ugochukwu, with his studs appearing to make contact with the Burnley midfielder's leg.

VAR ultimately decided that the incident was unworthy of review and play moved forward. The Premier League's live match centre and VAR hub later posted a statement, explaining exactly why that call was made.

It reads: "The referee’s call of yellow card to Havertz was checked and confirmed by VAR – with the challenge deemed not to be serious foul play."

The key line is the phrase: "Deemed not to be serious foul play," with the Havertz tackle viewed an not strong enough to meet the "clear and obvious threshold" for a VAR intervention.

Following full-time, many were quick to point out that red cards have been few-and-far between for Mikel Arteta's side, but how many sending off events have the Gunners suffered so far this campaign?
