'It's a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies'
Tim Allen, the actor who voiced Buzz Lightyear for four movies, has spoken out about the reimagined classic and claimed it "doesn't seem to have any connection to the toy."
Lightyear, directed by Angus MacLane and starring Chris Evans and Taika Waititi, made a splash after refusing to remove a same-sex kiss in middle eastern countries. Now Tim Allen, 69, has had a chance to watch the film. He's got a few thoughts.
Speaking to Extra, the original voice said he first thought that Lightyear would be a live-action depiction with "real humans." While one might question how it took so long for Allen to realise its animation, given that the first trailer came out eight months ago, Allen's got other issues besides the style.
"I've stayed out of this," he said. "We talked about this many years ago… but the brass that did the first four movies is not this. It's a whole new team that really had nothing to do with the first movies."

He then continued: "There's really no Toy Story Buzz without Woody. I'm not sure what the idea—I'm a plot guy. It would seem to be a big adventure story, and as I see, it's not a big adventure story.
"It's a wonderful story, it just doesn't seem to have any connection to the toy. It has no relationship to Buzz."
Some fans might argue that's the point, that this new film is a reenvisioning of the popular character. But each to their own Allen, each to their own.

The film itself has received mixed reviews, with some offering similar reasons as Allen.
"This cracking origin story for Toy Story's spaceman hero is fun and clever and reminds us why we loved Pixar in the first place," said The Guardian's Peter Bradshaw, who gave the film four stars.
