'Netflix is in the running for a reboot'

A brand new Inbetweeners reboot could be coming to Netflix, nearly 16 years after the original series ended.

Originally airing on E4, the show following the hilarious antics of A-level students Will, Simon, Neil, and Jay quickly became a generational classic.

The iconic show ended in 2010 after three seasons, but returned the following year with a feature-length film, followed by a sequel in 2014.

Since then, fans have been able to watch the show on Netflix, although in October it was reported that creators Damon Beesley and Iain Morris had reached an agreement with Banijay to bring The Inbetweeners back.

The news has not been officially confirmed, but an insider told The Sun that Netflix is in the running for a reboot of the beloved comedy series.

Since being streamed on Netflix, the show, which starred Simon Bird, Joe Thomas, James Buckley, and Blake Harrison, has continued to draw in new audiences, sparking major interest in a reboot.

They said: "Netflix have been keen to make the project happen partly because it's enjoyed a bit of a renaissance since old episodes aired on the streaming service and introduced a whole new generation to the show.

"The deal is on the cusp of being fully rubber-stamped, with discussions still happening about production timelines, storylines and cast."

The source added: "Inbetweeners fans will be thrilled and relieved because when talk of a reboot emerged last year, there were fears it might not turn out to be a telly project."

Back in October, creators Iain Morris and Damon Beesley said: "It's incredibly exciting to be plotting more adventures for our four favourite friends (ooh friends)."

Specific details about the project have not yet been released, including the cast and plot, and it is still unclear whether the original cast will return.

Thomas, who played Simon Cooper, has previously hinted that he would be open to reprising the role.

"What has happened is that the people who wrote The Inbetweeners a while ago sold the rights to a larger entity, and they recently bought them back so they can make some more," he said at The Comedy Rooms.

"I’m really excited. I don’t know what they’re doing. I just know they’re writing something, and I would really love to do it. That’s pretty much it."

He added: "I hope there’s more because I’ve not got that much else to do. I do like The Inbetweeners as well," per LadBible.
