The incident took place on Sunday evening.

An 18-year-old has died after he 'exited' an ambulance and was hit by a car on the M5.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening between junctions 20 and 21 after the vehicle stopped to provide treatment on the northbound carriageway.

The man was being taken to hospital but 'exited the ambulance' and was then reportedly on the motorway.

Sky News report that an off-duty officer tried to bring the man to safety however the man was struck by a car and died at the scene.

Avon and Somerset Police's assistant chief constable Joanne Hall said that their thoughts are with the man's family and said both police and ambulance staff are 'incredibly upset' by what happened.

At the time of writing, the man has not yet been identified.
