Russia issues direct strike threat to UK

It says these three British locations are at risk

The UK has been warned by Russia that it is edging closer to war, following the step up of military aid to Ukraine.

The Ministry of Defence on Wednesday announced its biggest delivery of weapons to Ukraine so far, with a total of 120,000 drones this year.

Russia, in the meantime, has warned of “unpredictable consequences” following the latest developments.

Following threats from a propagandist to wipe the “UK off the face of the Earth”, Russia has made a direct threat to three targets in the UK, as well as other European locations.

Among other countries in Europe, Ukraine has agreed a defence package valued at £3.4 billion with Germany, as Norway has also pledged an assistance of £7.8 billion.

Russia’s Defence Ministry said that the European nations’ decision to step up drone production was a “deliberate step leading to a sharp escalation of the military-political situation across the entire European continent and the creeping transformation of these countries into Ukraine’s strategic rear area”.

“Instead of strengthening the security of European states, the actions of European leaders are increasingly drawing these countries into a war with Russia”, it added.

A list of 12 locations across eight European countries was published by the defence ministry, with addresses it says are producing drones for Ukraine.

Which are the locations in the UK and why were they picked?

Mildenhall, Suffolk

This year, it was reported that Mildenhall, which is also the location of an RAF base, opened a new factory to produce drones for the Ukrainian military.

The biggest drone manufacturing company in Ukraine, Ukrspecsystems, runs the factory.

According to the BBC, once operational, it is capable of manufacturing 1,000 drones a month.

London and Leicester

As per the list published by Russia, in the UK capital they have targeted a company involved in “the sale of machinery, industrial equipment, ships and aircraft”, accusing it of working with Ukraine to produce drones.

Meanwhile, the location they've highlighted in Leicester is a business park.

However, there have been doubts on the accuracy of Russia's list of locations, as one of the locations they've identified in Munich appears to be a residential building.

Other European locations listed as ”potential targets” by Russia are the following:

Munich, Germany
Stoevring, Denmark
Vilnius, Lithuania
Riga, Latvia
Hengelo, the Netherlands
Mielec, Poland
Tarnow, Poland
Prague, Czech Republic
Kolin, Czech Republic

“The European public should not only clearly understand the true causes of the threats to their security but also know the addresses and locations of ‘Ukrainian’ and ‘joint’ enterprises producing drones and components for Ukraine on the territory of their countries,” it continued.

Dmitry Medvedev, former Russian president and Deputy Chairman of the Security Council, wrote on X that the statement “must be taken literally”, as he issued an ominous post.

“The list of European facilities which make drones & other equipment is a list of potential targets for the Russian armed forces”, Medvedev wrote.
