Judge in Adam Johnson trial begins summing-up

Homenews

Adam Johnson's court case over child sex allegations is reaching its closing stages, with Judge Jonathan Rose beginning his summing-up.

The former England international footballer has been before Bradford Crown Court in relation to two charges of sexual activity with a child, which he denies. He has also pleaded guilty to one charge of sexual activity with a child, thought to be less serious than those he denies, and one of grooming. All the charges relate to alleged activity with a 15-year-old schoolgirl who Johnson admits meeting and kissing. Prosecuting Begins In The Trial Of Sunderland Footballer Accused Of Child Sex Crimes Judge Rose described the schoolgirl as a "massive Sunderland fan," the BBC reports. He relayed the cases for both the prosecution and the defence, with the former alleging that the 28-year-old  "lied to his girlfriend, to police and to the court" and Johnson's defence team calling the schoolgirl a "proven liar who made up the other allegations". Johnson was sacked by his employers, Premier League strugglers, Sunderland, after pleading guilty to two of the four charges. The case continues.
