"It just became obvious that the devil is real."

A 'famous' exorcist has shared one terrifying moment which made him believe that the devil is real.

Father Carlos Martins has carried out exorcisms across the globe and has also shared his chilling experiences on his podcast The Exorcist Files.

Father Martins claims that demons are capable of being highly manipulative, yet also have a thorough understanding of humans so they can tailor their manipulations to the person they're targeting.

He recalled a chilling moment he had been followed by one demon over the course of his life. Martins said the demon called itself 'Confusion', though he explained that demons don't usually give their real names.

"Normally, a demon hides its name, and if you wear them down enough and he concedes to give you a name, 99 times out of 100 it's not his real name," he said on his podcast The Exorcist Files. "He gives you something fake."

Martins claims he was an atheist before finding religion and being called to the priesthood, according to the Daily Mail.

"It just became obvious that the devil is real, and when I encountered the devil for the first time, none of that was a surprise," said Father Martins.

During his very first exorcism, he recalled a demon telling him: "You were supposed to be one of us."

The priest also explained that physical phenomena like 'levitating chairs' were more likely to occur with less experienced exorcists, as it could intimidate younger priests and make them feel 'too crazy', adding that he witnessed it less as he became more experienced.

"What about the 89th time you see it? You're going to care less and less and less each time," he explained.

So if it’s not levitating chairs or whispering entities, you might wonder what the real fear is. According to Martins, it’s the sense of the devil itself.

"Even the stuff that he did to his victims didn't faze me, as horrific as it was," he said.

"What was much more fearsome than the physical phenomena that you see in the room, what you see, what you hear, what you feel in the room, is the mind of the devil, the evil he's capable of, the mind games he will play."

Even more chilling, he explained, is that “the devil has spent your whole life perceiving you, watching you, taking notes,” meaning it knows exactly how to target someone individually.

"It’s so he knows how to present a really tantalising temptation to you," he said.

"So if it's redheads, you like, he's got the perfect redhead. If it's money, if it's power, if it's an opportunity, he will offer those."
