British comedy treasure Caroline Aherne has died at the age of 52, after suffering with lung, eye and bladder cancer.

She will be best remembered for her performances as Mrs Merton, on the chat show of the same name, and as airhead Denise Royle, on the Royle Family. While her acting career had been disrupted in recent years by cancer treatment, she was still being beamed into the houses of millions of people around the UK each week as the narrator of hit Channel 4 show Gogglebox. But arguably Aherne's greatest moment was when she interviewed Debbie McGee on Mrs Merton. Coming out with one of the most quoted lines in British comedy history, Aherne asked McGee: "What first attracted you to the millionaire Paul Daniels?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lj-9lSEBBm0 The perfect line... delivered perfectly. The YouTube video has had a surge in views and comments since the news of her death.
