Yamal had to be substituted off during the club's 1-0 victory over Celta Vigo.

Barcelona forward Lamine Yamal has been ruled out for the rest of the domestic football season with a hamstring injury, his club have confirmed.

The exciting Spanish forward was substituted off on Wednesday evening, and appeared to be in some discomfort.

The 18-year-old underwent scans and tests on Thursday, which confirmed a torn hamstring.

In a statement released to social media on Thursday, FC Barcelona confirmed that Yamal will play no further part in the remainder of the club season, adding that there is hope he will be fit to appear for Spain at this summer's World Cup finals.

Their statement reads: "The tests carried out have confirmed that first-team player Lamine Yamal has a hamstring injury in his left leg (biceps femoris muscle).

"The player will follow a conservative treatment plan. Lamine Yamal will miss the remainder of the season, and he is expected to be available for the World Cup.

Yamal is amongst Spain's most important players, so would be a major miss at the World Cup.

Aged just 16 at the time, the Barcelona star scored a string of vital goals to help La Roja achieve European champion status in 2024.

Yamal, alongside much of the Spanish football-watching public now face an anxious wait to see if he can reagin fitness in time for the tournament.
