Call of Duty: Vanguardhas been out for a couple of months now and while any game in the franchise is always going to have high expectations, it would seem its Twitch numbers are absolutely tanking.
Since launch, CoD: Vanguard has struggled to capture its regular audience and new players like Modern Warfare and Warzone had. That being said, people would rather watch people do nothing for hours on end than watch this new release.
No, seriously - Vanguard gets less viewers than sleep streams: a brand of content that is already a pretty niche genre in the world of streaming where people do exactly that - broadcast themselves sleeping. Not quite paint drying - but still.
According to Twitch's own figures on the directory, CoD: Vanguard is currently averaging between 2.6k and 2.9k viewers; meanwhile, the 'I'm Only Sleeping' category alone has been boasting upwards of 5,000 viewers (at the time of writing, at least).
For those wiser to the platform, there are more adult channels within this sub-culture that offer more than just a snooze (you only have to have search ASMR more than once to stumble onto it) but the pioneers of the genre are still mainly just making Ps by catching Zs.
Twitch stats and analytics platform Sully Gnome reports that Vanguard viewers peaked at 59,258 in the past month; in comparison, Warzone typically garners around 10 times that amount on a regular basis. Levels.
Don't get us wrong, CoD as a whole still has a huge fan base on streaming platforms - comfortably up there with the likes of Fortnite, Valorant, Escape from Tarkov, GTA and so on - but for what used to be not only the biggest FPS but arguably the biggest annual release period, the marketing team will be looking for ways to keep people awake. Literally.
