Wednesday could be leaving Netflix for its second season

Undoubtedly, one of the biggest hits of the 2022 TV year was Netflix's comedy-horror series Wednesday. Based on the Addams Family character Wednesday, the show's first season revolved around the teenager, played by Jenna Ortega, as she attempted to solve a murder mystery at her new private school. Executive produced and partly directed by legendary filmmaker Tim Burton, in its third week on Netflix, the series crossed one billion hours viewed. On top of this, it spawned a devoted legion of fans, with viewers praising the show for its gloomy aesthetic, Ortega's star-making turn as the sullen Wednesday, and one particular dance scene. That said, despite the success of the series, it has not been given the green light for a second season by Netflix. And now there are reports that the show may switch to a different streaming service for its sophomore batch of episodes. This is because Wednesday was produced by Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer (MGM), which was recently acquired by Amazon for a  $8.45 billion - with the deal closing in March. As a result of this, the rights to Wednesday may go to Amazon, meaning its second season could premiere on Prime Video instead. That said, a deal could also be struck between Amazon and Netflix to allow Netflix to keep hosting the show. In March 2022, Deadline reported that Amazon was not planning to make all MGM content exclusive to Prime Video, which may give some hope to Netflix subscribers that are fans of Wednesday. Reports of Wednesday season two possibly swapping over to Prime Video come after the show received two Golden Globe nominations last month. It received a nod in the Best Television Series - Musical or Comedy category, while Ortega was nominated for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy series. Related links:
