If anything can fill that epic fantasy void left behind by Game Of Thrones, it'll be this.
If you didn't already know, the His Dark Materials Trilogy is one of the best series of books of the last two decades or so, and we really can't recommend enough that you give them a read.
We'll wait.
(several weeks later)
All caught up? Fantastic, because here comes the epic BBC / HBO co-production of the adaptation is on the way this year, and we've finally got our first trailer for the show.
Hollywood has already tried to adapt the books, when first in the series The Golden Compass hit the big screen in 2007, and despite being a bit of a box office hit, the cliffhanger ending has just been left dangling there ever since, most likely because the critics (and fans of the books) weren't impressed.
Jump forward to 2019, and we've got a much better feeling about the new series, which has already been given the go-ahead for a second season before the first has even aired.
The impressive cast list includes James McAvoy (Split), Ruth Wilson (The Affair), Lin-Manuel Miranda (Mary Poppins Returns), James Cosmo (Game Of Thrones), and Dafne Keen (Logan) as our hero Lyra, who uncovers a parallel universe and heads off on a potentially world-saving adventure.
Eyes pealed to spot the Aletheiometer? See, if you'd read the books, you would've loved that reference!
His Dark Materials is set to air on BBC One and HBO this Autumn.
