President Zelenskyy says Ukraine will host next Eurovision song contest after historic win

Ukraine's leader shared his thoughts via Telegram - promising to host the next contest

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has promised that Ukraine will host the next Eurovision song contest following last night's historic win. The country's rap-folk act Kalush Orchestra emerged victorious from last night's ever-popular music competition with their song "Stefania" - a track which earned them 631 points and led them to victory. You can listen to it below: Taking to social media outlet Telegram shortly after the act's win, Ukrainian leader Zelenskyy shared his congratulations before vowing to host the next edition of Eurovision, despite the country's ongoing battles with Russia. "Our courage impresses the world our music conquers Europe!" his message began. “Next year Ukraine will host Eurovision! “For the third time in its history. And I believe – not for the last time.” Following a symbolic win for the country, members of Kalush Orchestra shared their thoughts whilst receiving the competition's coveted trophy: “Thank you for supporting Ukraine. This victory is for every Ukrainian. Slava Ukraini.” Ukraine first entered Eurovision back in 2003 and with three wins under its belt, the country has quickly established itself as a top contender following trophy-grabbing appearances in 2004 and 2016. Meanwhile, the UK somehow managed to defy the odds to secure a second place spot thanks to a performance from TikTok star and singer, Sam Ryder. Performing his song "Space Man", Ryder's success made history by earning the United Kingdom its first top three finish in around 20 years. "What an experience.” Meanwhile, Eurovision host Graham Norton shared his astonishment at how the UK's musical effort was received during this year's competition. "This is a red letter moment.
