The new scary movie from the makers of Get Out and Split is available to watch right now.
Blumhouse have had a rollercoaster of a year in terms of quality.
On the one hand they had the Halloween reboot, BlackKklansman, and Upgrade, while on the other they had stuff like Truth Or Dare, Unfriended: Dark Web, and Insidious: The Last Key.
Thankfully, their latest release, Cam, falls firmly into that former, high quality category.
The neon-soaked story focuses on Alice 9Madeline Brewer from The Handmaid's Tale), a young woman who relies on a webcam service for work.
Finding herself suddenly locked out of her account, she investigates the problem only to find a digital clone has taken over and intends to make her life a living hell.
Here are a few of the strong reviews the film has been getting so far:
"[Director and writer] Goldhaber’s steady hand ensures that things are rivetingly queasy from start to finish, and Brewer’s performance is powerful enough to flip the script on the entire cam experience." - Indiewire
"Brewer, of course, is the glue that holds the puzzle together. If we didn’t care for her surreal plight, then the film would just not work, but the actress builds a thoroughly believable character in Alice." - The Playlist
"Alice’s materialism and ambition initially give it shades of a morality tale, but Brewer’s intensely vulnerable performance...puts the audience’s sympathy squarely with her." - The A.V. Club
"Cam is a suspenseful mind-bender with plenty of timely feminist subtext. It takes viewers down some unexpected rabbit holes and commendably avoids pandering to male-gaze sex-thriller tropes" - The Hollywood Reporter
